The Little Brick House
A family home filled with an abundance of light and space. Modern day life is hectic and everyone wants a sanctuary to retreat to at the end of the day, kids included. So the little brick house has a space for everyone, whether it is for quiet family time or for entertaining friends and family. Open plan goes to the next level of this one, with an overly generous space in the central kitchen, living and dining zone. So much so the kids use the perimeter of the room as a scooter track on rainy days. And if the living room is too busy you can always retreat to the theatre room or the kids playroom. The design cleverly uses “line of site” to keep an eye on the kids without having them underfoot which allows for acoustic separation. This avoids a common problem in open plan design of loud, noisy spaces. The central deck creates a spine through the home allowing northern light to be maximised to both sides of the house.
The palette has been kept varied with texture playing a key role. Recycled brick started the selection and then other materials were layered around it to compliment. Timber, off white and touches of black for depth. Colour was then added in soft furnishings to allow the look to change over time in a relatively inexpensive way.
An inviting, eclectic home.
